Greetings My name is Megan Rush!

meg-rush-photoI currently attend Drake University located in Des Moines, IA and will graduate in May 2018. I’m pursuing a BachelorDegree in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Drake and am majoring in Radio/TV Producing with a minor in Leadership. These past few years I’ve not only furthered my education in the television industry, but also my leadership skills. Drake has given me countless opportunities to be a leader, including being a Peer Mentor Academic Counselor to first years and an Orientation Leader summer of 2016 and 2017. I’ve also gotten to implement my leadership skills in the media industry having interned at countless companies including Meredith Corporation, KCCI 8 News, and NBCUniversal.

When I’m not busy at the Journalism School or my internship, you can usually find me hanging out with my friends at my sorority house, Delta Gamma (DG).  I have held a position in DG since my first year.  This organization, has been the most influential part at Drake University.  I’ve been surrounded by women that I am constantly inspired and encouraged by.  It’s been a home away from home for me.

I’m from a suburb of Chicago, Geneva, to be exact, and that’s where my passion of creating videos began.  I was fortunate enough to have a TV Studio at my high school where I was able to take classes and learn about the television industry. I soon realized that I could make a career out of this.  With help from my high school TV teacher I began to perfect my craft.  This is when I realized that I love to edit video.  Of course, throughout the years, I’ve began to further my skills in videography and photography, as well as writing.  I believe the more you know, the more valuable you are.  I am constantly trying to learn as much as I can to be the best that I can.

Whenever anyone has asked me what I want to be when I grow up I always say I want to produce or direct the Today Show.  I always saw this as the ultimate dream because why not have a dream that scares you.  Well with the help of Drake I can say that this goal isn’t as scary as it used to seem.  I’ve been exposed to live TV and it’s amazing to see all that goes into producing a newscast.  I think I learn as much, if not more, from real life experiences and Drake has done an impeccable job of providing that.
